I bought a set of two nightstands from goodwill in less than great condition when my wife and I were less than wealthy and had just gotten married. I now at least have a few bucks to buy harbor freight tools and try my hand at refinishing these bad boys.
I started with citristrip and was able to get the original stain mostly removed and spent a good 4 hours sanding just this first nightstand down to 320 grit, but I still have obvious spots in the nooks that I can’t quite sand well. You can see a few spots where I tried a new bauer rotary tool that I thought would be a game changer, but that ultimately left more scuffs and has given me more sanding work than I started with.
What is the best way to sand these obvious dark spots? Is there a tool I’m missing? Do I lack elbow grease and grit?
