\*\*\* btw i’m not asking for medical advice or diagnoses, Wybie has a vet appt 5/15 for some bloodwork + maybe ultrasound. i am just venting to see if someone has a similar experience and what helped them \*\*\*\*\*
ok background. my cat Wybie is almost 6 and my roommates cat Killua is wybies brother from the same litter. We also have Jackie who is 7 years old and they have all been together since Jackie was 1 and Wybie + Kiwi were like 4-6 wks old (my roommates mom found them in in a box on side of road). We have 4 litter boxes, they have a primarily wet food diet with some kibble snacking + additive salmon oil for their coat, we live in a relatively spacious house, they have plenty of windows and interactive toys and scratching posts.
okay so Wybie has always been a meower, pathetic mommy’s boy to put it lightly. i love him to death and it’s probably my fault (covid kitten) but oh my god you would genuinely think i breast feed him he is so attached to me. but the yowling is getting so bad soooo bad he’s been to the vet multiple times nothing physically wrong with him , been on multiples kinds of prozac. Either the ear absorption method for prozac makes his ears itchy and stinky or i can’t get him to take the pill and he scratches the shit out of me. Basically he meows indiscriminately when he feels like it usually at a door to go outside (never ever been an outside cat) or just pacing. I try to redirect and redirect and distract with play and he just goes right back to it until he tires himself out and then he’s sweet and sleepy and loves me. i hate even calling it meowing because it’s like the saddest whiniest loudest howling and whole time he’s just straight faced. like on the feline pain chart or whatever his chin and face are relaxed and eyes are relaxed, sometimes when he’s looking outside he’s on more alert kinda hyper. but always responsive to a lil pet, he’s kind of finicky so regardless if you touch him too much you might get swatted but nothing pain reactive.
so a big thing im seeing is he doesn’t like the other cats. he is significantly smaller than the other boys and so for a long time they would steal his food when we fed them in the same area. this caused him to start inhaling his food (bro was hitting the beavo swallows just to avoid his fat ass brothers) and then basically projectile vomiting on the most annoying angle of the wall/ carpet. He is now fed separately and does way better around mealtime. great that parts solved. all i’ve read is that he’s bored and he wants to play and needs enrichment and so i will play with him/do lick mats/laser toy/ treat ball/go on a small walk or drive (he loves the car) and it kind of makes him worse, he meows even more like he doesn’t want to be in the house at all. With toys like the string toy whatever the fuck i can’t think of what they’re called or laser toy he is VERY involved and enthusiastic about those but the second any other cat comes in the room he retreats and stops engaging. he doesn’t go for the laser or any toy while the other cats involved. it’s so sad makes my heart hurt like he does not fw his brothers at all. which makes me think littermate syndrome??? but he’s the same way with both of the other cats will try and chase and fight them and not fun fighting like chunks of fur and i find knots on wybies ear because he’s little so he starts a fight he can’t end :(
when we were in a smaller space and he was forced to be closer to the other cats so often he peed a lot and so we got another litter box and tried to make things better and he just kept peeing and so we moved into this new house and it wasn’t really an issue until the other day i was unloading my car and accidentally let wybie out and i grabbed him and brought him inside and then 5 minutes later hes in the small office by the front door PISSING IN A CORNER AGHHHH so i redirected him to the CLEAN litter box right in front of him. i don’t know what to do im at my wits end do i move out and separate him from the other cats??? that’s fine if so that’s my son i would go to war for him
i’ve already spent a stupid amount of money on those stupid diffusers too so dont even with those.
im sorry i know very long winded: basically im asking what works for your cats? what are your experiences? i feel crazy and alone and annoying to the other people in the house and dont know what to do for him!!!!
