Why The Major Leagues is the best Campaign Trail mod in a longggg time
In the major leagues politicians go to the White House, I go to lunch.
The major leagues is one of the best mods in a long time because it’s not trying to tell a one sided story, not trying to give this super deep message, not try to give a edgy word salad for something that’s clearly tame as a lame attempt to sound profound. It instead is just a fun presidency sim clearly made with love that tells more of a story about politics than any other mod. Linus vs Charlie is one of the best examples of the true horror of democracy. The biggest fault in the most perfect system.
The gameplay itself is fun, questions aren’t big, and it works into its favor, with their typically only being 3 options it helps make the whole campaign feel quick and like it’s not lagging behind (my biggest issue with mods like TTNW.) The system of trying to get different school groups onto your side is well done and honestly plays a lot better than it has any right to.
The style of the mod is great, visuals can make or break a mod and I feel like the visuals in this mod are great while not feeling like they’re over compensating for a low quality product.
The music I’ll admit I don’t like, Peanuts music honestly fits the mod better than the actual sound track. Vince Guaraldi wrote all the songs to be sophisticated and ironic, with most of his songs in non-holiday peanuts shows like the movie coming in for when something cruel or ironic is happening (example: Charlie Brown gets a ball hit right back at him, knocking his clothes off, he then puts his clothes back on, throws another pitch and immediately gets his clothes knocked back off repeated 4x, would be a annoying joke if it not for the music that perfectly fits the cruelness of no one caring that he’s failing so badly.)
The story itself is great, Linus is well written in Peanuts so it’s pretty hard to make him poorly written in the mod, but Charlie Brown in the mod comes off as a little bit less pathetic as the Peanuts version and I’m happy he is. Their dynamic steals the show, Charlie Brown no matter the ending feeling regret for how he let politics get in the way of friendship is beautiful and something I figure a lot of people feel now, whether they will admit it or not. Marcy, PepperMint Patty, Lucy, PigPen, and Schroeder all fit well into their roles and behave great.
Finally, The idea that Charlie Brown over the campaign can go from a spineless loser to a complete sociopath because of a crappy little school competition is sad, but then you look politicians, even the ones we view as the most evil weren’t always this way, something along the road changed them, made them become more kill or be killed. It’s sad, but it’s reality. Charlie Brown wins way easier when being a dirty player than when being an open and honest man. Much like real politics.
10/10 mod.

How’d all these writers get mogged by the Charlie Brown meme mod?
