switch 2 vs steam deck pros and cons of each
ive gotten most of my finances in order so now im planning to save money to finally get a handheld consol for my birthday. just want second opinions from others about which one would be better. if i do decide to go with the steam deck it would be whenever they restock or release a steam deck 2. im gonna list off some pros and cons of each off the top of my head. if anyone has anything else to add id appreciate it!
switch 2 pros:
nintendo games
ability to separate controllers from screen
physical customization options (officially and unofficially)
cheaper upfront cost
switch 2 cons:
nintendo games are EXPENSIVE
need to re-buy games i want to play handheld
subscription for online services
no oled option
no modding at all or will get bricked
dont technically own games
what makes me specifically concerned about the switch 2 is that when I had the switch light, I barely got any games on that because I thought the games where too expensive back then. im worried about a similar situation where I dont get my money's worth out of the console becauee I dont buy enough games for it. thats compounded by needed to buy duplicates of certain games.
steam deck pros:
achievements and games both sync
profile and digital customization
oled option
allows for modding/emulating
typically cheaper games
steam deck cons:
constantly out of stock, will need to track website and get lucky.
no Nintendo games
steam deck 2 could be anounced soon after
bulky
more expensive upfront price
for the steam deck, its very unlikely ill get it in time for my birthday considering everything, I dont want to end up waiting 6+ months to get a handheld. or for something to be anounced for the steam deck 2 and to be put in limbo like the steam machine and steam vr
thanks in advance!
