Can't ping device in VLAN but MAC is visible (Fortigate + Dell + UniFi)

Hey everyone,

I'm dealing with a weird VLAN issue and could use some help.

my topology:
FortiGate → Dell Switch → UniFi Switch

VLANs:

• VLAN 60 = untagged (PVID 60)
• VLAN 40 = tagged

Problem:

• I can see the MAC address of the device on the network
• But I cannot ping the IP
• The device should be in VLAN 60

Details

• Dell port: VLAN 1 tagged, 40 tagged, 60 untagged (PVID 60)
• UniFi port: default config (untouched)
• FortiGate is handling routing

What I tested:

• Ping from FortiGate → no response
• Sniffer shows traffic reaching the device
• MAC address is learned correctly on the switch

Questions:

• Could this be a VLAN tagging mismatch on UniFi?
• Is it possible the device is receiving traffic but not replying due to wrong VLAN?
• Any good way to trace the return path?

Feels like a layer 2/3 mismatch, but I’m missing something.

Any ideas would be appreciated 🙏

I have an environment with Fortinet → Dell Switch → UniFi Switch (USW) using VLANs (1, 10, 30, 40, 60).

The problem is that I can't ping the UniFi switch. I've already verified that: The USW's MAC address appears on the Dell switch (i.e., physical link OK)

Communication seems to be failing due to VLAN configuration

Current situation: Dell port has: VLAN 1 = tagged VLAN 40 = tagged VLAN 60 = untagged Suspicion: 👉 The USW expects management on untagged VLAN 1, but is receiving untagged VLAN 60, so it's not getting the correct IP address.
