Data analytics in accounting
Hi, I’ve worked in accounting for nearly 15 years, both in public accounting and in-house, and I’m looking to strengthen my data analytics skills.
My current skill set includes:
- Advanced Excel (I’m the go-to Excel resource in my department)
- Power Pivot
- Consolidation tools such as Oracle Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) and OneStream
- Extensive use of Microsoft Power Query over the past few years
- Basic experience building canvas apps in Microsoft Power Apps and workflows in Microsoft Power Automate
- Completion of an introductory course in Python, although I’m still unsure how best to apply it in my current role
Given this background, which technical skills or tools would you recommend I focus on next to further develop my data analytics capabilities and create the most value in accounting and finance?
