I'm in SEO, so you optimize websites to rank higher on Google. I'm going crazy y'all...This makes me mad like nothing else.
So this guy wants to add sciency articles to his fashion site because he thinks AI will cite his cite. YOU ARE NOT A MEDICAL SCIENCE-Y WEBSITE. You just sell fashion-related items to a very niche demographic who suffer from certain diseases.
I TOLD YOU. You would never rank for that. I told you it would have ZERRRRO benefit but you insist...WHY?!! Because "you heard" from someone that AI will cite you. AI WILL NOT CITE A CLOTHING BRAND FOR SCIENCE RELATED QUERIES. Even if it acted stupid and cited it, IT'S IRRELEVANT TRAFFIC! YOU SELL CLOTHING.
But what does Mr. client do? Hires someone who is not even fluent in English to write medical articles and they just give it to AI and copy paste. Now the website is littered with a bunch of unqualified, AI slop medical articles that nobody in the world reads or clicks.
They do a bunch of things like this and you know what's the worst part? I HAVE TO BE THE ONE TO ANSWER FOR SEO PERFORMANCE. So they RUIN my work and I have to be accountable for their own failure. THAT'S PRECISELY what makes this situation so infuriating.
Another example....client paid a bunch of money to some AI slop content writing company and you know what they do? Send us a bunch of AI slop articles that....I HAVE ALREADY WRITTEN ABOUT! THEY DIDN'T EVEN THINK TO CHECK. And now I'm being asked to publish DUPLICATE CONTENT that is pure AI slop to compete with MY HANDWRITTEN ARTICLES!
"Just tell them" - I DID! They just say "hmm" and move on.
"Just tell them and then let them do what they want at which point you can say 'I told you so'"
I DO. But they still hold me accountable for the SEO performance of the site REGARDLESS.
Another client....I prepared a well optimised very classic page, nothing out of the ordinary but they didn't want to publish it. Why? "It doesn't look visually impressive" BRO I AM NOT AN ARTIST I JUST SEND ARTICLES. IF YOU WANNA MAKE IT LOOK BETTER THAT'S THE DEV'S JOB. I DO SEO.
We have a super high authority page and what does the client do? POLLUTE IT WITH A BIG FAT APP ADVERTISEMENT ...though related but the banner is so blurred and big it's just....WHY WOULD YOU BE OKAY WITH THAT? WHY ARE YOU DESTROYING YOUR OWN WEBSITE?
They just keep DESTROYING THEIR SITE AND ASK ME TO HELP THEM RANK BETTER AND THEY DON'T LISTEN TO ME WHEN I TELL THEM NOT TO.
I literally have to fight these people for their own good and prevent them from destroying their website, they don't listen to me 60% of the time AND THEN AT THE END IM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SEO PERFORMANCE?!?!?!
