I had to take different flights today from Atlanta (supposed to go through Charlotte to Illinois but the flight was delayed by two hours for mechanical reasons as soon as they started boarding and I’d have missed connected flight home-last for the night). I was grateful the gate agent was able to finagle a new route for me but by that time, I had to run to the new gate and my checked bag was already loaded on the charlotte flight (now sitting for hours).
I made it home, my bag is in Charlotte (I’m in Illinois). The only reason I checked this bag is because I have an injured shoulder in a sling and there’s no way I could manage the overhead. I even booked myself into first class to avoid being to close to people who may bump me. Needless to say, I was not in first class after being rerouted…best laid plans.
My issue is that my bag had all my toiletries, my skincare, my clothing, etc. that I need before the next flight will arrive in my home airport 13 hours later (at best).
As much as I have flown I’ve never had this happen mainly because I try so hard not to check luggage. And idea how long these bag transfers take? Do they just come in on the next flight (so 13 hours later)? Can I replace necessities even though I’m home?
It isn’t the end of the world but we had an event tomorrow and I’d really like to wear makeup, use my own skincare regimen, etc.
Editing to add: I was prompted at landing to file a delayed bag file. I have the number. It says they are “looking for my bag.” Last update on track my bag shows it was removed from plane in Charlotte and next flight to my airport is tomorrow night, so closer to 13 hours after my bag should have arrived.
