Title says it all, basically.
We’ve been living in this complex for over a year and used autopay to always pay the rent on the first of every month. We signed a lease extension with the management company to add 6 more months before we plan to move out of state.
Suddenly, this month, we receive a threatening notice about rent being unpaid from one of the leasing agents in the main office without any other previous communication. I’ve gone ahead and paid in full including the penalty fee, but something feels wrong about this to me.
The website had all of our banking information on auto pay for over a year and the first thing we heard when it didn’t anymore was an eviction threat. Am I crazy in thinking that we should have at least been told we’d need to reset auto pay for the lease extension? How would I have even known that rent wasn’t paid this month?
