Trying to understand my rabbits leg injury
A week ago my daughter was trying to pick up her rabbit off our bathroom floor; he squirmed as she got him off the geound and unfortunately he slipped out and hit the edge of our bathtub from maybe 18-24in height and slid down into it. I wasnt present at the time but that is how it was explained to me. He immediately had a limp in his left leg and that evening we took him to a 24hr vet that would *actually* see rabbits, its amazing how many vets won't in my area (phx).
The vet evaluated him and felt around on his leg and wasnt able to detect any obvious breaks, didnt recommend any imaging, and sent me home with some liquid pain meds. That was a week ago. This rabbit is acting like nothing is wrong, hes happy, eating, drinking, pooping, rubbing his chin on things, etc. The way his leg acts though I'm trying to understand. He hops around, but some of the time his leg kicks out and he'll sit there for a min, then eventually pull it back in as he hops or moves through other leg motions. He'll lay down on his right side when he relaxes and has recently been laying on his left side or straight as well. When petting him Ive been feeling around his back and hip area to check for symmetry and find anything that is off but its not clearly in my untrained experience.
I need to check again, but on his back his leg was extremely limp in a side to side motion in the few days following his injury.
I'm confused about what I should do or even *can* do in this situation. If its not a break then it could be maybe a dislocation, but would he not be in some sort of visible pain or at the very least some lethargy? The other option is nerve damage, where it either resolves after some time or doesn't. Either way what would a vet be able to do? I wanted to get some advice from fellow rabbit owners who can maybe point me in the right direction.
I have a video I can send on request.
Thank you!
