On Sunday, April 26th, the Lambert Trophy was officially delivered to Annapolis and the Midshipmen at their annual Football Banquet. The day took on an even bigger celebratory tone thanks to Landon Robinson and Eli Heidenreich becoming First Navy Duo to be Selected in the NFL Draft Since 1956 the day before.
Two of our trustees started their trip the day before with a 4 hour drive, a hotel stay, and a lovely evening in Annapolis before delivering the trophy on Sunday. While we wanted to take the Lambert with us on Saturday, the rainy conditions forced us to leave it behind.
The next morning was a quick drive to Alumni Hall. The only travel hiccup was when one of the trustees almost pulled into a parking spot assigned to the Secretary of the Navy. Once there, we took the trophy inside and placed it between the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy and the Liberty Bowl Bell Trophy.
After that, it was time for cocktails and a great brunch to celebrate Navy's historic 2025 season. It was particularly touching to hear head coach Brian Newberry acknowledge each senior individually for what they meant to him and the program. One twist about Navy, unlike most college football teams, is that their post graduation plans of each player are already known. Minus Eli and Landon who are pursuing their NFL dreams, we got to learn where each player will be serving after graduation.
It was a fantastic weekend and we could not thank the Midshipmen enough for hosting us. Special shout out to Scott Strasemeier, Senior Associate AD for Sports Information, for coordinating all of this.
