I want to donate a small amount (less than $100) to the campaign of someone I know who's running for office (as a Democrat and Trump critic), but I'm concerned about setting myself up for retaliation since most individual political donations are publicly available nowadays (as easy as looking it up on the FEC donor lookup website).

Am I over-reacting/over-thinking this whole thing, or am I right to be concerned and to prefer to lay low instead?
