We’ve been spending a ton of time on the Rio Grande down in Big Bend this spring and I’ve completely smitten with low-water canoe trips! I had no idea just how durable they were for bumping along… this opens up a whole slew of new western rivers. And the low water sure keeps things exciting.

So, now i’m looking for a hybrid river boat that can handle up to class III, came across a mad river explorer 16, made of “royalex.” Would folks recommend?

The seller says it weighs 72 pounds, which seems like a lot to me. We’ll mostly be driving it on our little Prius with a roof rack, and needed to lift it and store it hung up under our carport, so I’m a little worried about the weight. But is that just a reality for any canoe this size?

The boat is in good shape and seller is asking $525. Advice appreciated!
