Hey guys!

I've posted my journey of learning Biome generation with worldgen V2 before, and now its time for the next entry in this virtual journal.

In the last two months i had very little time to learn and practice, but right now, i think i got a complete set of very basic skills.

Please note that those images show a self made Biome that is not intended to serve as a full mod. Its my test project, where i add new things whenever i figured out a new functionality in V2. Therefore its very unpolished. I could add fitting vegetations to the upper plains, more structure to the very flat oasis generation, and so on. But its not my goal to "finish" this Biome, whatever that may mean.

This is my last post: https://www.reddit.com/r/hytale/comments/1rqb673/comment/o9qy85h/?context=3

As you see, a lot has changed.
In the meanwhile i learned how to mix densities, how the new prop generation nodes work, to generate trees next to water and large prefabs on fitting, even surfaces. There is still a lot i don't know, and i am reaching my limit of what i am capable to understand as someone who never learned about modding, coding, scripting, game developing. I know that there are great posibilities using anchors, warps, vectors and stuff. Generating denseties in relation to certain points is a complete obscure myth to me. There are two or three things i'd like to work on:

  1. Learning how rivers work. I dont get how to structure a continous, randomly curved line, either as riverbed or as hilltop. If you have tips, please. Being capable of doing canyons would be awesome.
  2. Opimization. My Biome takes forever to load (one chunk in 2-3 Minutes). And neither my CPU nor my Ram is at full load. But i'll figure out how to improve the performance more and more. Right now it works, but its crude spaghetti nodes.
  3. Environmental stuff. I have no Idea how to use it, tie my biomes to other biomes or whatever you can do else. Right now, my projects are isolated worlds.

Well, that's it for now. I have Ideas for other, more impressive and fascinating biomes than my drylands. But it served well as training field.

If you're interested in modding and didn't try it, give it a chance! It's completely possible to get the basics, and most of you will be much faster than i am.

Have a good day, night or whatever it might be in your timezone,

Lagbeard
