Debt Collector sounds Fake

Hey everyone, need some advice because this whole thing feels sketchy.

I got a call from an unknown number the other day. Normally I ignore them, but I answered this one. The person said they were from “Location Services” and were trying to contact me before a claim got officially filed against me. They gave me a claim number and another number to call for more info.

When I called, and provided the claim number the person already knew my full name, DOB, and last 4 of my social. They said it was about an old ACIMA Leasing account that went delinquent. I actually do remember having an ACIMA account years ago, but I completely forgot about it until now.

What’s throwing me off is that I asked for proof of the debt or anything showing they actually own it, and they’ve been super vague. The only name they’ve really given me is “Enterprise,” and they keep saying they’re just mediators between parties trying to collect the debt.

I ended up agreeing to a settlement with monthly payments because the amount sounded believable and I didn’t want to ignore something legit, but the whole situation still feels weird to me. The unknown caller ID, talking about claims being filed, refusing to send proof, all of it just seems off.

Has anyone dealt with something like this before? If it’s legit, what should I be asking them for before I send any money?
