Hello everyone, so I have a small mixed breed dog named Abigail, about 34-ish lbs, she's 14 years old. Took her to the vet to get her shots that were due, and she was showing as slightly anemic in her senior panel results. Took her back in again for a retest about a week later, and she's slightly more anemic. Tested again the next day (today) and she is slightly MORE anemic. Vet did x-rays and Ultrasounds, the x-rays showed some possible small kidney stones and her spleen looked a little "wavy" but nothing major was showing up. Ultrasound showed that her gallbladder is "full of sludge" like mucus I guess? But he checked her all over where he could for a tumor that could be bleeding or something, and didn't find anything. It's very mysterious! He's sending the blood off for more thorough testing, but said we might have to see a specialist. What could it be? Why is she losing red blood cells?
Some things to note: She is on meds for hypothyroid. Her thyroid levels were normal in the blood tests.
A test was done to see if her immune system is attacking her red blood cells and it was negative.
Her white blood cell count was pretty normal.
There is no blood in her urine or stool.
Her bone marrow is producing red blood cells.
She still runs around, wants to go for walks, eats, drinks lots of water, poops, etc.
She has what I call "tummy hurt days" though where she won't eat at all until the evening and then she's like, ravenous. I'm not sure what causes this. I can HEAR her belly making terrible noises, and she'll usually have diarrhea or soft stool on those days. But then she'll be fine for days, or weeks, after that.
