Hi, I’m a 24yo F with personal history of migraines and family history of parotid cancer (mom died at age of 58) and colorectal cancer (maternal and paternal grandfathers).
I’ve always had GI issues such as bloating, indigestion after heavy or greasy meals, and occasionally what i thought might be “gastritis”, the usual pain in the pit of my stomach, but never really put a lot of attention to it.
Disclaimer: i have been binge drinking every weekend since the age of 16 approximately, and during the hangover I tend to vomit a lot, like I could spend 24 hours straight vomiting. I don’t do drugs and don’t smoke.
About two months ago I noticed a stabbing/sharp pain below my left rib every time I drank something with alcohol and I assumed it was stomach irritation or something so I just treated it with OTC antacids and for the most part it went away, until…
20 days ago I was partying with my friends. The day after around 10 pm I was laying in my bed eating some pasta and watching a tv show when I started feeling awful palpitations, high heart rate, dizziness, chest pain and pins and needles in both hands. I went to the ER, they checked my vitals (HR 155 lpm, BP 151/92) and did an ecg that only showed synus tach. I saw a cardiologist who ran some tests (echocardiogram, 24h holter) and nothing abnormal was found but my HR in rest was still high so they discharged me with low dose bisoprolol and diagnosis of gastritis and dehydration due to the prior alcohol consumption.
The next days I’ve been feeling really odd, I have lots of strange symptoms I’ve never felt before. With the beta blocker the HR stays in normal range for most of the time but I still get some random tachycardia episodes and palpitations now and then (I haven’t found any relation with food ingest tough). Also, I have this weird feeling that my chest is vibrating and it extends to my upper belly and neck, as if I had a phone stuck in there, it’s so intense that it won’t let me sleep at night until is 3 am. I’ve been having adrenaline rushes randomly during the day but mostly at night. About 2 weeks ago I started feeling like there’s a lump in my throat, painful swallowing, a lot of phlegm and lately I’ve had what I think is esophageal spams and dysphagia (but I’m not 100% sure about the lattest).
I had a laryngoscopy performed by an ENT where she told me I have cobblestone throat probably due to GERD and LPR, but I haven’t had text book symptoms. Now I’m really worried it might be something serious such as esophageal or gastric cancer.
Also, I’ve tried some exercises to calm the vagus (as I read that GERD can irritate it and cause autonomic dysfunction) but they don’t seem to work.
Can someone please tell me if you have had similar symptoms and what is your diagnosis? I’m getting extremely anxious about it. Thank you!
