Built an anti-doomscroll app that rewards you for living

Social is broken. It's all about keeping us on screens, doomscrolling and disconnected. This is the social layer that connects us, gets us out living, and rewards us with coins. Majority of profits always flow back to users.

Common pushback: "How does an app that gets you off the app even work?" This is tech for humanity fam, and it's about time. You earn coins for real-world moments. Posts about wins big and small. The social part is rallying around each other's growth, dreams passions, etc. Eventually we become the connection / matchmaking layer around everything. Connect with people, nonprofits and causes you believe in. Get rewarded with coins that represent a majority of platform profits.

What's working, weekly share cards get genuine engagement. People use it for things they actually care about.

What's broken, 75% of signups are gone and not sure they ever come back. Shipped a new onboarding flow yesterday. Discovery feed next. Loud Summer coming soon will run new prizes for most active users.

Where I am: 60+ signups, 10-15 weekly active, 50+ wins logged this month. Small but real. Open to feedback. What would you want from a social layer that rewards you for growing instead of scrolling?

Some of you saw my last post a couple weeks back when Android went live. We're now on iOS as well. liveoutloud.live

Quick update on the positive sum social layer because real things happened.

The numbers:

60ish total users, mostly friends, family, and early believers. 10-15 weekly active. The active ones are real, they post, they refer, they show up. The other 75% signed up to support me and disappeared. That gap is the thing I'm trying to solve.

What shipped:

  • iOS approved and live on the App Store (took multiple submissions, learned a lot about Capacitor + native plugins the hard way)
  • Referral system with milestone bonuses, both parties earn coins when the referred friend actually engages, not just signs up. Aligns incentive with retention instead of vanity.
  • 50 coins just for signing up, no strings.
  • Weekly tracker today: hit all 4 pillars in a week (Live, Connect, Dream, Get Fit), get a bonus. Daily for habit, weekly for arc.

The economics:

Majority of platform profits always flow back to users. $225 given out in gift cards in April alone. Loud Summer kicks off in May and will be the biggest giveaway we've done yet. Small numbers but the model is the model from day one, not a thing we'll add later.

What's hard:

Growing past the friends-and-family ring is the brutal part of indie social. I haven't cracked it. Local outreach feels like the right next move. Influencers feel premature. Grants are 0-for-4 (OSV moved me to a call round but not past, EV denied, still applying to smaller ones).

What's funny:

A Kleiner-backed competitor (Bond Social) launched last week with similar anti-doomscroll framing. Different approach, they license your memories to AI companies. Mine sends majority of platform profits back to users. Different bet on who owns the value. Validates the space, doesn't worry me.

What I'd love feedback on:

If you tried it last time and bounced, what made you bounce? If you're new here, the cold-open is the friction I'm most worried about. The loop is: do your daily grow, healthy for you, earn coins (upside in platform profits), log off and live your life. Makes sense to me but I'm too close to know if it lands for a stranger.

Honest critique appreciated.
