Pediatric SVT ablation (2nd try)
My son (11yo) has SVT, 2 years ago they tried to ablate but it was unsuccessful. As it was explained to me, the extra electrical pathway is right on top of the main node, if they ablated, a pacemaker would have been put in right then and there. They created some scar tissue, hoping to interrupt the extra pathway and the plan was to wait until he was 13 or 14 to try again. It was very well maintained on metoprolol until recently. Now he’s on both metoprolol and Verapamil, and his cardiologist is pushing for ablation again. Except instead of her doing it, she wants him to go to CHOP where they have a specialized catheter for this procedure.
CHOP is going to be calling me to schedule the surgery, but I don’t have a lot of information on what the specialized catheter is and or what’s different about it that would make this ablation successful considering we are only two years out from the first unsuccessful ablation. I have no relationship with this other cardiologist or hospital system and they are hard to get a hold of (and very swamped) so I’m hoping this fine community could provide some insight. Thanks!
