I’ll start with- I did not check the school calendar before committing to this trip and will need to miss open house this year. But I’m still curious which decision other working moms would make.
So, I work on the opposite side of the county from my company’s office. They have a management meeting with the c-suite each month, and once a quarter these meetings are a dinner in person. They are also often accompanied by in-person trainings in the office the day of. I get a lot out of these trips: face time with execs, networking, catching up with colleagues I’ve known for years but who are in different divisions, being able to pick the brains of our execs on company growth, priorities, etc. I try to attend each one but I have missed maybe 1x/year a couple years.
I leave on the 19th for the dinner meeting on the 21st. I rely mostly on the parenting app for school communications, but just checked the district calendar and I see open house is also on the 21st. So I will need to miss it.
If you, unlike me, had known open house was the same night as a quarterly work trip, which would you attend?
Edit: husband will be going with my kiddo, so this is not a mom-or-nothing situation 😊
