Brand New to the App
Hi all! Brand new to the app after a decade ago experimenting with David Lucas Burge’s Perfect Pitch course. Never progressed far but I can only put that on myself not actually doing the work.
For many years teaching and exploring music myself personally. I gravitated towards the idea of achieving PP through a sensory method. I read a book called Moonwalking with Einstein which discussed mind palaces and all that fun stuff.
The main point in the book was that our physical and localization “memories” are evolved to be excellent. So why not use that?
I have believed for a while that if I can associate pitch with the “feel” of a fret on my bass (my main instrument) then Perfect Pitch, at least in that form, would be attainable. Having witness a friend who is a pianist achieve it through this very method, I was pretty convinced.
Years go by and life happens and, like learning a language, i just never quite got around to testing this idea for myself.
Flash to today. I download the app on a whim and try it out. I do pretty okay but can feel i’m using my relative pitch more than anything else.
Then I remember this feel-based approach and start imagining myself playing the note on my fretboard as I listen and see the colour. Obviously a small sample group but I went from 75% ish the first few times to 91% and could feel my reliance on Relative Pitch fade away.
Needless to say I’m excited for the journey if not the achievement of my goal. Thanks for the app and would love thoughts! Either way. I’m excited to see what happens.
