So did the writers forget that Kimiko isn't American?
That scene where Kimiko was talking about "finally seeing someone who looked like her on television meant so much" made absolutely no sense in the context of Kimiko's upbringing. This makes sense for an Asian-american character who grew up watching mostly white people on television. But she's not Asian-american. She's just straight up Japanese. Grew up in Japan. A mostly homogeneous country where she likely consumed almost exclusively Japanese media before being abducted to the Philippines.
