finished the Picture of Dorian Gray
finally….i've slain the beast! here’s my unpopular opinion. the amount of hype and recommendations this book as i entered my new reading journey at the start of the year. i felt it was my unwanted duty to read such classic literature. only problem, i have 0 interest in stories written or set in pre 20th century. shows, movies, video games, books, etc. very little interest. not to mention, despite it being very beautiful and poetic of coarse, I truly just could not take it anymore with how they all spoke!! it was so beyond melodramatic and ridiculous and laughable! (spoiler) one moment wanting to marry Sybil, next night can't act, dumps her, regrets, too late etc. lol it was all just hilarious. the only thing i truly took away from this is was the fact that there's no denying how gorgeous the writing is. the language the descriptions and analogies, etc. though i found it extremely pretentious sounding and obnoxious, if you're into reading for that reason, it's beautiful and you'll love it. i'm plot driven. character driven. and there was very little of this book that interested me. i mainly was rushing to finish it to finally just say that i read it and i was hoping that it would prove my pre judgement wrong. but it didn't. i don't regret reading it at all, but im done now. thank Lord Henry. only gave it 3 stars simply because i feel like its blasphemy to give it a low score as i dont want to come off THAT uncultured. that's all. THANK YOU
