Making the switch from bucket fermenter to Fermzilla 27l tri conical this weekend

Hello,

I’m Making the big switch from bucket fermenter to Fermzilla 27l tri conical this weekend, I bought this https://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/product/gen3-fermzilla-tri-conical-27l-starter-kit-with-handle/, added the rapt pill and heat wrap belt.

I’ll be doing an extract kit (Muntons hazy IPA https://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/product/muntons-flagship-beer-kit-hazy-ipa/), I’m kegging (oxidised my last beer, so hoping it will help with that 🤦‍♂️) already, never fermented under pressure, but I’ve been watching YouTube videos to get some tips.

I’m going to order the kit today, I’m just wondering is there anything else I should buy to make it a bit easier.

I definitely need a jumper line to keg it oxygen free.

I’m wondering about dry hopping, but I’m not gonna buy the hop bong today, I assume I’ll just pop the lid off and drop them in, same as with the bucket?

To dilute the extract kit (it comes in 2 cans), you usually pour a couple of litres of boiling water into the bucket fermenter and stir it up, I’m not comfortable pouring that straight into the fermzilla (may warp the plastic), should I do it in the bucket, then once I’ve poured the cold water to make it 23l, then transfer it to the fermzilla?

Any tips for a first timer?

Looking forward to using the new equipment, but just don’t want to mess the brew day up and make it smooth as possible

Thanks for any help

Anyone had a case of the keg only leaks gas when in the fridge?

Anyone had a case of the keg only leaks gas when in the fridge?

It’s driving me insane lol

I’ve sprayed everything for leaks (no bubbles), dunked the keg in water (no bubbles), lines hold pressure when not attached to keg inside fridge (I can pressurise gas lines for days unconnected while cold), the lines/keg held pressure for days when attached outside the fridge, but when I set everything up inside the fridge, gauge drops to zero after about an hour or so lol

I thought it might’ve been tension on the lines, when I close the fridge door (it’s an old wine cooler, that can fit 1 corny) on the line, so I left loads of slack, still lost pressure.

Only thing I can think is tension on the line, but it’s no different to outside the fridge, where there’s no leaks?

I did read the cold could be shrinking the o rings inside the gas disconnect/post? (I’ve already replaced the post o ring), but this doesn’t explain holding pressure in the cold while not connected to keg?

Anyone had this?

This has been going on a week lol, I’m a beginner, so bit lost with all this tbh

I’m afraid to lose a cylinder of gas, otherwise I’m going to carbonate it outside the fridge, then chill it, connect the disconnect and pour beer as and when without the gas being constantly on.

Thanks for any help

Edit: Thsnks for all the advice, after pouring the beer, it appears to be oxidised, so it’s fucked anyway.

Cheers to everyone who helped me, this subreddit is a god send for someone like me, who doesnt have anyone else to ask about things or know anyone else into the hobby.

I have just bought a fermzilla tri conical, so I expect I’ll be asking tons of questions about that, when I use it to ferment and close transfer the next extract kit I get.

I’ll jump on YouTube for now, but thanks for the help 👍👍

It is okay for carbonate my keg in my garage, then put in my keg fridge till it’s ready to drink (probably next weekend)?

Hello people,

It is okay for carbonate my keg in my garage, then put in my keg fridge till it’s ready to drink (probably next weekend)?

Im assuming it is, but I read you have to have the PSi set higher?

Does anyone regularly do this?

Any tips?

It’s about 15 here in the UK for the next week, I think thats 59 in American lol

Cheers

Hello, people, I’m brand new to kegging and already burned through 2 CO₂ cylinders on my first attempt, so trying not to make it 3 😅

What I’ve done:

First keg: had leaks, emptied 2 cylinders (~£50 each)

Before 2nd kegging:

Pressure tested empty keg/system

Left for a week on my garage floor and it held pressure fine

2nd Kegging day:

Gravity transfer

Had a bit of an overflow into the headspace

Dropped lid O-ring into keg (got it straight back out)

Cleaned + re-lubed lid O-ring and reseated

Obviously, I’m nervous to just switch the gas on and leave it overnight.

Troubleshooting I’ve done so far:

Gas line + disconnect hold pressure when NOT on keg, but not when on the gas post, gauge goes to 0 after about 30 minutes (admittedly I’m only watching it on for about 20 seconds as I’m scared of leaks)

Replaced gas disconnect

Swapped gas post

Sprayed Star San everywhere → no bubbles

Re-lubed and reseated lid

What’s happening now:

Hit keg with ~20–30 PSI (only for ~20 seconds)

Turn off gas

Come back ~30–60 mins later → gauge reads zero

BUT:

Pull PRV → still get a decent hiss / pressure inside

No constant hissing from lid or posts

What I’m trying to figure out:

Is this a slow leak I’m missing?

Or just CO₂ being absorbed into the beer?

Is it normal for pressure to drop that quickly after a short burst of gas?

Key detail:

Keg held pressure perfectly when empty

Only seeing this behaviour once beer is inside

Main question:

Does this sound like a leak or normal absorption?

And if it is a leak? where would you check next please?

Appreciate any help — this hobby is driving me insane trying to bankrupt me already 🍺💸
