So our Nespresso Vertuo has finally given up after ~3 years, and I’m weirdly relieved 😅
For context: my wife and I basically use it for a quick coffee before the school run. Nothing fancy — no syrups, no latte art, just caffeine to function. We used to use a cafetière but got lazy and slipped into the pod life.
Now that it’s dead, I’m thinking this might be a good excuse to escape the Nespresso ecosystem entirely.
Current thinking:
- Go for a drip/filter coffee machine for easy, batch morning coffee
- Maybe grab something like an AeroPress later for the occasional espresso-style cup
From what I’ve read, drip machines seem like a good middle ground — still convenient, cheaper long-term than pods, and less faff than manual brewing. And honestly, convenience is key at 7:30am with kids involved.
I’ve seen everything from cheap/basic machines like Bosch MyMoment filter coffee machine or Russell Hobbs Buckingham filter coffee machine, up to fancier stuff like the Sage Precision Brewer — not sure where the sensible sweet spot is.
Also considering an AeroPress down the line since people rave about it being simple and surprisingly good
So yeah — a few questions:
- Has anyone here made the jump from pods → drip? Regrets?
- Is a drip machine actually as “set and forget” as I’m hoping?
- Any specific models you’d recommend (UK ideally)?
- Or am I overlooking a better option entirely?
Appreciate any advice — especially from people who just want a solid, no-nonsense morning coffee rather than a hobby 😄
