Passive interest that beats student loan interest?

I recently saved over $30K so that if I decide to leave my main job, I can. And so my family is safe financially. But I also have four times that much in student loans while finishing a PhD.

So I'm looking into high interest options now, and at least some portion can be high risk. Logically I want the interest to be higher than student loan interest which is around 8%, and that seems to require loaning out the money.

I'm also a tech entrepreneur; my current business is a nonprofit and getting off the ground. Still, I've decided to keep my personal finances mostly separate. For savings, I'm trying to find the right balance of reasonable risk and high return.

For those reading, I'm curious what you would do in this situation?
