I’m interested in applying for a social work job at CalVet Yountville. The duty statement says they are expected to do individual and group therapy as well as counseling and psychotherapy (https://calcareers.ca.gov/CalHrPublic/FileDownload.aspx?aid=31328305&name=ClinicalSocialWorker.doc.pdf)

However, in talking to friends who work there (non-social workers), I’m told the social workers there don’t do psychotherapy at all- just case management and some supportive counseling. Why aren’t LCSW’s allowed to do psychotherapy there? I’m confused. I can’t imagine being a licensed psychotherapist, applying to a job to provide psychotherapy (because I enjoy it and it’s in the duty statement) and then being told you actually aren’t allowed to do it.

Does anyone here work at the Yountville State Veterans Home in Social Work that can confirm this? Do they do psychotherapy at other CalVet facilities?
