Cane making tips and recommendations?

I was asked by a friend who is 6'5" to make him a cane since the tallest he can find is 39" and he wants one that is 41".

So I plan to make a fritz handle. I'm going to using hickory for the handle and shaft of the cane. I already found a straight tool replacement handle that is 1 1/8" in diameter and I have some blocks of hickory that I can use for the handle part.

I think I'm good to go but in reality I've never made a cane before and I'm just curious if others have experience with this and are willing to share some pitfalls they ran into or methods they thought worked particularly well.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts you feel like sharing!
