You don’t have to agree with every part of this cartoon.

But many Israelis would say it reflects how the conflict has felt to them for years:

cycles of rockets, terror attacks, escalation, retaliation, and civilians trapped in the middle while the world simplifies everything into “good vs evil.”

Reality here is much uglier and more complicated than social media slogans.

I’ve been thinking about something lately that I kind of accepted as “just the way things are” growing up, without really questioning it.

I was born and raised in Israel. Since I was a kid, I remember seeing Iran’s leadership especially Khamenei talking openly developing nuclear weapon just to lunch at Israel and destroy Israel.

At the same time, Iran has invested heavily not only in its own military capabilities, but also in funding and supporting terror groups that actively attack Israel.

And I keep coming back to the same question: why?

Why pour so many resources into harming another country that, from their perspective, is far away and not directly interfering in their daily lives rather than investing those same resources into improving their own economy, infrastructure, and quality of life for their citizens?

The same question applies to Hamas. Why dedicate so much effort to attacking Israel, knowing full well it will trigger a harsh response? Israel doesn’t just wake up one day and decide to attack Gaza every round of fighting is triggered by escalation. Why??

If I were in charge of Gaza, I’d be thinking about long term development economy, tourism, international relations, infrastructure. Gaza could look completely different.

So why spend 16+ years prioritizing conflict over building a functioning, prosperous society? And what about the civilians there who don’t want any part in that violence?

I genuinely don’t understand the logic behind it.
