Do I need a second opinion?
I (F 65 y) broke 4 metatarsals in a torsion injury. Photo is from day of injury (7 days ago) while traveling abroad. Xray report from yesterday says:
"First metatarsal medial base intra-articular fracture not well visualized. Second metatarsal base comminuted transverse-oblique fracture. Third metatarsal base comminuted transverse – oblique fracture. Fourth metatarsal base comminuted transverse-oblique fracture, associated displacement. Stress view demonstrates first TMT joint asymmetric widening. Soft tissue swelling."
Awaiting waiting CT results.
DPM orthopedic surgeon at Kaiser recommends surgery within a week - says that will have best outcome with lowest risk of long term problems like arthritis.
Loved one insists I should get a second opinion. For the most part I trust Kaiser to follow protocols based on outcome data. Is there any possibility that going forward with the surgery is ill advised?
