Fear of Iatrogenic Harm as a Dental Student

I’m a 3rd year dental student and I’ve been getting a decent amount of hands-on experience lately; restorations, root canals, fissure sealants, etc. As far as I can tell, things have been going well and my cases are turning out successful.

But I can’t shake this constant fear in the back of my mind about causing harm to a patient, especially from iatrogenic reasons or doing something suboptimally without realizing it.

Have any of you ever actually caused harm or made a mistake that affected a patient? If so, how did you deal with it afterward, both clinically and mentally?

And more importantly, how did you get over that fear (or did you ever)?

Would really appreciate hearing honest experiences.
