Heya, last week I had a post asking basically how to drive my car. I switched over to dailying this car last Thursday, but I'm definitely not smooth at all. Had saved up a few more questions since then, thanks for all the help last time!

  1. When I shift into first and let off the clutch, I hear this "clattering" noise for a few seconds before the car gets up to speed. Am I not giving it enough gas before the bite point? I try to keep it under 1.5k rpm but I feel like I still hear it then.
  2. When I need to accelerate from a standstill, I'll go up to around 3.5k rpm in 1st and then shift over to 2nd. There's times where I feel some resistance from the shifter but it still goes in - is it bad if I have to apply a bit of pressure? I haven't heard any bad noises yet but it definitely feels like a decent amount of force.
  3. How do you guys handle stop signs/intersections? I initially tried to stay in 2nd and feather the clutch to keep going, but I can feel the engine lugging since I end up going at maybe 5-10 mph. However, there's also resistance from the shifter if I try to downshift into 1st too early. Am I supposed to wait it out and just downshift at the end?

Thanks!

Heya, picked up my BRZ last Saturday having only driven manual in parking lots two or three times. Had a friend drive it back to my house, been taking it out to practice for the past two days. Had some questions so I figured I'd come here.

  1. How do I let off the clutch smoothly? I've tried adjusting the seat in multiple ways but it always feels like I struggle at the very end of releasing the clutch. I can't contract my ankle anymore, so I have to move my entire leg up and that's a bit more jerky and inconsistent. I'm around 6' if that helps.
  2. On a hill start, how much more do I gas? I'm trying not to burn the clutch so I tried getting it up to around 1.5-2k, but due to a skill issue I kept stalling. Eventually had a friend bail me out and teach me, but I'm not quite sure if there's a range for it.
  3. Any "bad" sounds I should be listening for? The car makes a bunch of noises when I'm driving around slowly and I'm not quite sure what's good and what's bad.
  4. Anything else I should look out for? From my own thoughts I stay on the clutch a bit too long and I'm a bit scared of getting on the gas while letting go of the clutch, which makes my starts rough. Not sure if anyone has tips on this or if it's just more practice and experience.

I'm just praying the car is still in one piece by the time I can drive it smoothly.

Thanks!

Edit: Thanks for all the responses! I went back to the parking lot and just kept practicing and today was a lot better, so I took it out for a small spin and managed to get over the hill I stalled at without issue. Feeling a lot more confident now, although I can still smell my clutch burning up a bit.
