Some of my Tomy Prototypes
Here is my shelf of Tomy Prototypes! This isn't all of them, just a hand picked selection to accompany my Unreleased Boom variants that I have been showing off the past few days on Instagram and Twitter.
Front and center are some of my most prized possessions. These are not only unreleased but they are virtually unheard of “Cyborg" prototypes. Unlike the Soccer and Bowling variants, these are completely one of a kind. These were never shown off in Tomy's catalogs. (Image 2 is a reference to them in Sonic Boom.)
The row behind the Cyborgs is a full set of the unreleased “Soccer" variants. Tomy only planned these 4 characters. I included a picture of their announcement in Tomy’s catalog where you can see they were meant to be 2-packs. There are a few of these samples out there and you’ve probably seen the Knuckles one which is the most common.
The back row is a full set of the unreleased “Bowling" variants. Tomy only planned these 3 characters. I included a picture of their announcement in Tomy's catalog where you can see they were meant to be a 3-pack with character cards similar to the metallic 3-pack featuring Parallel Universe Villain (Green Eggman), Orbot and Cubot.
If you’ve seen any other unreleased Tomy Boom Prototype, you’ve probably seen Lord Eggman (Black Eggman) My Lord Eggman is kinda special and one of the earlier prototypes of the unreleased figure. One day I'll show him compared to the "almost final" one that most people have (myself included). His colors are different and he has some additional paint details that the one that was about to be sold doesn’t have.
The Classic figures to the left are early resin prototypes with a nice hand painted finish.
To the right I have an unreleased “neon" Sonic and Metallic Tails. I’ve included a picture of them with their Jakks counterparts. How funny to think that Jakks almost wasn’t the first company to do a Neon Sonic!
The Classic Knuckles with them is a resin prototype of the pixel figures but with the pixels hand painted. @luigithecrab has the resin hand painted pixel Sonic and Tails so check those out!
