Hello all,
We now look after this apple tree and are looking for advice on how to prune this. Last summer, there were loads of apples on this tree. I believe it is a crab apple but not so sure, did not get to eat as much of it but the few i tasted were quite tasty (99% of fruit went to my backyard compost). I started pruning it today after reading that i should and I'm thinking i probably took off somewhere around 10~15% of the existing branches; a few dead branches, a few water sprouts, and a few crossed ones/will eventually cross.
After enough scars (tree was just defending itself i guess?), i took a step back and realized there are 4 leaders, a few of which are crossing each other and i am lost on how to approach this. Zero experience growing/pruning trees. I would love to give it the best care. Should i prune this thing or just leave it alone since it is producing? Thanks very much in advance!
