It's several years old, and I believe on an askreddit thread. He was recalling a moment while he served in Iraq or Afghanistan. He was hunkered down somewhere for a while when a trio of fox kits came into view. He threw them some chicken at them expecting them to fight over the scraps. To his surprise, the kits took turns, giving priority to whomever the group felt was hungriest.
