MT5 Can Sometimes Feel Archaic - BUT - It Proved Itself during the October 2025 AWS outage.

MT5 Can Sometimes Feel Archaic - BUT - It Proved Itself during the October 2025 AWS outage.

Late last year, there was a major outage across various websites including Amazon, Zoom, United Airlines, and more. This cascading event shocked the world, and according to CNN, this event effectively "took down the internet".

While no industry was spared from this massive disruption, for traders, when prices are moving and positions are open, an event like this can quickly turn into disaster.

The MT5 can be clunky at times, and we may wonder if it's obsolete in 2026, in particular when comparing to all the sleek web-based platforms out there. However, traders using installed MetaTrader 5 terminals remained largely unaffected by the 2025 AWS outage because the desktop platform runs independently of AWS infrastructure. This is a reminder that, as traders, we should rely on resilient setups that can continue operating independently of major cloud outages and not be entirely bought over by newer web-based options.

How to Conquer your Demons in Trading

When we hear the word ‘demon’, each of us imagines something different: spiritual beings, psychological traps, or simply expressions of human fear and desire as in "facing your demons" or "battling your inner demons".

In the context of trading, this term takes on a very particular flavour that we can all relate to: moments of lost control, confusion, frustration, and other difficult emotional states we can find ourselves in.

In our latest insight, we invite you to explore what 'demons' are actually operating within the radius of a trader, and how being aware of these may help you maintain control when you need it most.

As always, we go into nuanced concepts (rather than basic "fear and greed psychological traps"), that you may have never thought of.

We will cover:

  • The Demon of Premature Harvest | Capping Profits Too Early
  • The Demon of Shifting Boundaries | Moving Your Stop-Loss
  • The Demon of Micromanagement | Not Letting Your Algo Run
  • The Demon of Double-Minded Doubt | Hesitation and Second-Guessing
  • The Demon of Chaos | Clutter, Mess, and Laddering Positions

Plus tips on how to handle each of these.

The Yen is at it again

Back in January we shared our nuanced insights on how the Japanese Yen creates not-so-obvious ripples throughout the entire financial markets in ways that can truly shock even the most seasoned traders across all asset classes.

As mentioned in our article on this very topic:

"...As the Yen strengthened, it created downward pressure on the U.S. dollar, since investors unwinding Yen-funded carry trades sold dollars to buy back Yen. This flow is amplifying volatility as a whole at this time, and is shaping market sentiment across global FX and risk assets"

Now with the BOJ dropping fresh intervention hints on the final day of April 2026, it's a good time to get familiar with how the Japanese Yen affects the entire financial markets - no matter what asset you're trading.
