Warning for those flying from Mexico City
Just a heads up for the community: I’ve now been blocked by security at AICM (Mexico City) twice in four months for carrying a typewriter...
The airline (Aeromexico) was of no help, even though the last time I managed to resolve the issue with COPA Airlines. As they simply accompanied me through security and clarified straight up, that the machine is simply too fragile for it not to be carried onboard.
This time around though I was forced to leave my machine behind (seized) it was either that or no flight. The security officer handling the case refused to provide any feasible explanation, stating simply that it's their decision and that it is final.
I think most of us here have flown with machines before and I can certainly understand security concerns. However, for this to happen twice at the same airport within a period of three-four months I figured I'd give everyone a heads up.
For reference I've been traveling all over the world with a typewriter without any problems.
I have no idea if I'll be able to recover the machine. Perhaps if anyone has had a similar case I am open to advice.
P.S. Put the flair as general question as no other option really fits.
