I was Plat I 70 LP grinding for the victorious chroma, then an EIGHT game loss streak tanked my MMR and snowballed me straight to plat IV over the course of the next week. The actual amount of smurfs I've ran into was obscene - at one point i was the only plat in the lobby and there was a bronze II, level 30 account. I don't understand how this MMR system isn't considered broken as all hell. Not to mention the winning 17 LP and losing 24 each match part of the argument. How does this not create an absolutely inescapable cycle?
