I mostly blame "Family Loading... Please Wait" for this HC, but yeah, I totally buy that he eats like a truck lol

Hot Take: I don't want Maddie to be Amy's Human Companion

I'm sorry to piss everyone off like this.

One major reason I don't want Amy to become a Wachowski is that I don't want Maddie to become her human companion. I have two reasons.

  1. It seems like a lot of folks have had enough of Maddie being a boy-mom and wants some cute, girly moments with the two. Totally Valid. But for me, "we're both girls" is just not that interesting as a dynamic.
  2. While the movies focus a lot on Sonic and Tom's bond, we really never get to see how Sonic or his brothers relate to or bond with Maddie. Even if the films wanted to portray Sonic as being particularly close with Tom, why not show Tails and/or Knuckles have the same type of relationship with Maddie?

The Knuckles show fumbled hard with this by forgetting Maddie existed after ep 1 and trying to have Knux bond with Wade and his mom instead (which was a waste of time since Knux has no chemistry with either of them and it's highly unlikely we'll see any of the Whipples ever again).

More importantly, we've never seen Tails or Maddie interact one-on-one in a significant way. Also, did we all forget that Tails still doesn't have a human companion yet? Like, he was all alone for years. And assuming the SCU adopted the popular notion from the games and comics that he's an orphan (correct me if I'm wrong), he never had parents like Sonic and Knuckles did before coming to Earth.

So why can't Maddie be Tails' human companion instead? Why can't she be the one to encourage him to step out of Sonic's shadow, believe in himself, and be his own independent hero? To me, that's a much more interesting dynamic than "I finally have a daughter."

Again, I'm sorry...
