Should I expect 1mm accuracy with moderate DPI?

long story short, bought cheap protoarc em04 just to try trackball. Few days of using it, i have no problem with moving around screen and clicking whatever i want, its feels nice for my wirst.

But for really precise movements, 1-2mm on 27inch screen, its just can not be done unless i turn down DPI all the way down. It feels like that bit of stick that needs to be overcomed by finger to move ball its enough to move coursor about 5mm after it let u move, if im really focused i can go down to maybe 3mm precision. But its still far worse than single pixel precision of mouse. DPI setting is on 3rd preset out of 5 and it not too fast, not too slow for 27inch screen.

For things like 2d cad work or text highlighting its just unusable, only for more casual stuff.

And my questions are:

is it just cheap trackball with bad rollers (it feels like sensor have enough resoultion but ball sticks to ball bearing no matter how clean and greased it is) or it is just how trackball works and precision never be as perfect as mouse sensor?
