Two months ago, my car was diagnosed by a local professional German repair shop as having a timing cover leak on both the driver’s and passenger’s side. They quoted me $2,500 and about 10 hours of labor to fix it. I decided to wait and monitor the situation myself.
Now I’ve come to a different conclusion. It’s very likely that the leak is actually coming from the camshaft magnets, which makes it look like a timing cover leak. It also seems like my valve cover might be leaking oil as well—this is quite noticeable. Specifically, the Bank 2 left-side magnet and both magnets on Bank 1 appear to be leaking. The edges of the timing cover don’t really look like an actual leak.
At this point, it’s hard for me to fully trust the repair shop, so I would really appreciate any advice from you all. Thank you very much!
