For some time now(2-3 months) I have the feeling that I must take the monastic vows and become a monk on mount Athos. I have prayed to God daily if this is the right path for me, and I have only felt stronger feelings to go there. My question to those who went there is if you have seen any unusual behaviour by the monks there. Since I expressed my wish to my closest people, they haven’t stopped telling me that monks(even on mount Athos) do very sinful things. My mother talked to a friend of hers, who has been going to mount Athos for years, and he told her that the monks there drink a lot of alcohol and that they “recruit some “beautiful” monks for some “specific” purposes”. I don’t believe any of those things but they still trouble my soul and this saying has been on my mind for days. I know that some monks around the world do have passions and I try to defend this behaviour both in my mind and in front of those people who speak badly about monks.
