TW: anatomy terminology
About Me:
I’m an early 30’s trans man trying to get scheduled for hysterectomy. I’ve been medically transitioning since 2019. Like many before me I’ve gone back and forth on keeping some parts of myself given the state of, well, everything, but I think I’m finally certain to remove everything but keeping my vagina for PIV. I’m also looking into meta w/o urethral lengthening and scrotoplasty.
The Situation:
I learned recently my mother has osteopenia. Which means there’s a higher likelihood for me to develop it. The idea of osteopenia and osteoporosis scare me. I’m aware being without ovaries to produce estrogen needed for bone health can also contribute to this. To my understanding testosterone can also help with staving it off but i am not a doctor and can always be wrong about this and the previous statement.
Questions:
- For those of you who had hysto with ovaries removed and it’s been 10 or more years, how are you faring?
- Have you had to do some diagnostic imaging or screenings sooner than guidelines dictate? (Like a DEXA bone density scan or labs?)
- For any that ended up developing osteoporosis or osteopenia, what’s quality of life like? How do you manage your condition?
Obligatory I’m not looking for medical advice. I’m trying to see the what the long term implications for us are when transitioning medically. I see a lot of posts from younger folk, I want to give some of our elders a space to share.
