First time shooting analog at night… kinda forced into it😅 (Ilford Delta 3200)

Hi everyone,

So… I just had my accidental debut in night analog photography.

I’ve actually never shot film at night before but yesterday i had to photograph a graduation and things didn’t exactly go as planned. The indoor well-lit location we were supposed to use suddenly wasn’t available, so we ended up shooting out in the street, in the middle of the historic center.

Lighting situation: the classic yellowish street lamps, not super bright, kinda uneven. Definitely not ideal.

I was shooting Ilford Delta 3200, my camera only goes up to ISO 1600, so that’s what i set it to.

I ended up shooting mostly at f/1.9 and f/2.8, with shutter speeds around 1/60 and 1/30.

The in-camera light meter was confusing, it kept jumping between 0 and overexposed so i just tried to trust it when it felt reasonable and went with it.

Now I’m here wondering:

👉 Considering i shot Delta 3200 at 1600 iso in these conditions, how do you think the photos might turn out?

👉 Would you recommend pushing to 3200 (+1) in development, or just developing normally?

👉 Also a bit worried about depth of field, since i was shooting that wide open.

I’m expecting grain (which i don’t mind at all), but i’m more worried about losing too much detail or ending up with muddy shadows.

Any thoughts or similar experiences would really help😭 thank you for your attention!!
