Tracing felt like cheating… but it improved my drawing faster than anything

I used to feel really stuck with drawing. No matter how much I practiced, proportions were always off and it was honestly frustrating.

I avoided tracing at first because it felt like cheating.

But once I tried it just to understand shapes and structure, things started to make more sense.

I’m still not good, but I finally feel like I’m improving instead of guessing.

Curious — did anyone else feel like this, or is tracing actually hurting progress long term?

Does tracing actually help beginners improve faster?

I’ve been trying to improve my drawing and noticed that tracing helps me understand proportions much better.

Some people say it’s bad, others say it’s useful if used properly.

From my experience, it actually made things click faster.

Curious what others think — does tracing slow learning or speed it up?
