I finally achieved 106%

I finally achieved 106%

Possibly the biggest feat I ever pulled off in any videogame ever, just because of how bloody hard the time trials and N.Sanely Perfect relics were! All this work for a fifteen second cutscene lol. Even though I suffered a lot and nearly sent myself to hospital after punching my lap full force from the rage at one point, I still believe it was worth it and I'm very proud!

I thought this would be a good oppurtunity to mention some of my final thoughts on this game before I end this post.

My favorite level - without a second guess Crash Landed, I love the alien feel and the vibrant colors :3

My least favorite level - any level where Neo Cortex is a playable character - I just don't like the moveset very much

The most troubling N.Sanely Perfect relics for me - were Crash Landed (especially because of the ride parts - you ride past a box by accident, game over) and Rush Hour, which I had to play at least ten times because I kept dying on the very final section, even though everything leading up to it is surprisingly easy enough.

The most troubling platinum relic for me was beyond shadow of doubt Toxic Caverns which I would literally scream out of the pure rage while doing.

My total playtime is 107 hours!

Crash 4 is a great game even though I have to admit that I find the completion way too excessive with the things like N.Verted mode that was not very interesting and hidden gems a lot of which I would never find without straight up looking them up. I personally would also split Rush hour into two separate stages. I hope that they can work on these shortcomings if they do a Crash 5 even though the chances look pretty bad now that TFB are focusing on Spyro 4. It still was a very interesting experience and I'm happy that I lasted for this long :)

I almost went to hospital because I raged over a videogame

This might be a stranger story to tell, but screw it - here it goes!

So, I was trying to 106% a game called Crash Bandicoot 4. For people unfamiliar with games, this one is notorious for being outrageously difficult, like to the point where a lot of people quit early and where one wrong input is going to absolutely dunk you and your sanity with it. I'm an achievement hunter and 106% completion is necessary to unlock the final achievements which only around 3% of the game's players have. I really liked the game just playing through it, so I thought I could do 106% as well - very bad idea

This game features something called Time Trials and this mode requires you to run through a level as fast as you can. There are three main tiers of times - (forgiving) sapphire, (admirable) gold and (ballbusting) platinum. However, someone at Toys For Bob (the studio that made the game) thought it would be a brilliant idea to include all platinum times to reach said 106% completion. The trilogy that released as a separate game would require only gold times.

I was just finishing up the entire game and I was up against the very final two time trials, so I decided to go for a level called Toxic Tunnels next. It's a very long stage and a very hard one also. It truly requires perfect precision and focus. And after a very painful session, I managed to reach the end with a brilliant time, BUT the game failed to register one of my inputs at the very end, making me FRICKING MISS THE PLATINUM REQUIREMENT BY ONE SECOND.

At this point, I genuinely went crazy, I yelled out of anger and in that rush, I hit my lap with my hand full force, but in such a way that I could only yell once more from the pure pain that impact caused. For the next at least half an hour I couldn't feel anything than a ticklish sensation in my lap, like if it was sedated with some kind of anesthetic drug. I then went full panic mode whether I should or shouldn't go see a doctor. I may have overreacted with that but I genuinely got very scared. In the end, I decided not to go and hope for the best. After a while, I started feeling my lap again and it seems like it had no further effect. But boy, that certainly was an experience...

I ended up trying few more times and I ended up getting the time, but I'll never forget this and this was the last time I tried completing a game like this, for gods sake.

Tommorow is the day!

It was a very long and painful journey, but tommorow I'll attempt to finally finish the 106% feat - I am only five platinum relics away and I did almost three whole worlds today lol. My current combined playtime is just over 102 hours. I like the feeling of almost having "mastered" the game, even if my performance is nowhere near the impressive developer times which I won't be doing because I wanna move onto another platformer after I finish this one.

Platinum Time Trials Are Extremely Hard

Going for 106%, I already have all 38 N.Sanely Perfect relics, all gems and most of platinum flashback tapes, leaving some for later. But man, these time trials are pretty dang tough! I just did the Hit The Road platinum and I have to say that I got very sweaty lol. Very proud of this, though! I'll be doing them in order, the same way I did the N.Sanely Perfect relics
