The Vatican Honors a Regime With Blood on Its Hands

The Vatican has given one of its highest diplomatic awards to a representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran. A government that has jailed protesters, silenced journalists, persecuted minorities, and cut internet access for millions of people during crackdowns.

This is the same regime whose forces killed thousands during protests. The entire country lost internet access while violence was happening in the streets. Families could not contact their loved ones. Many people disappeared into prisons. Others were shot for demanding basic rights.

And now the Vatican talks about “peace” and “dialogue” while giving awards to representatives of this system, while the internet is still not accessible for Iranians! Awarding them for what exactly?

Diplomacy should not mean forgetting what people have suffered. Giving this honor to the Islamic Republic sends a painful message to victims, prisoners, exiles, and families still waiting for justice.

Shameful.

Issa Omidvar Has Passed Away

Issa Omidvar was part of a generation of explorers who saw the world with genuine curiosity and respect. Together with his brother Abdollah, he traveled across continents at a time when such journeys felt almost impossible, documenting cultures, people, and ways of life that many had never seen before. For many Iranians, the Omidvar brothers became symbols of courage, wonder, and the desire to understand the world beyond borders.

They spent months living among tribes in the Amazon rainforest, visited Inuit communities in the Arctic, crossed the Sahara and Australia’s deserts, and documented cultures in places such as Tibet, Peru, and Papua New Guinea at a time when many of these regions were almost completely inaccessible to ordinary travelers. They recorded rituals, daily life, hunting techniques, clothing, and traditions that in some cases later disappeared or changed drastically with modernization.

With his passing, we lose not only a traveler, but also a rare spirit of exploration from a different era, one driven by humility, patience, and love for humanity. May he rest in peace.
