Wood ID
Need help identifying this wood species so I can match existing stained trim/molding in a 60s–70s house.
Client wants me to add a chair rail that I can stain to a similar color as the existing trim.
I originally thought red oak, but the grain seems tighter and less porous than typical oak. I already tried pine for replacement pieces and it stained completely wrong.
Trying to figure out if this is:
- red oak
- birch
- poplar
- or something else
Main goal is finding replacement wood that will stain/blend similarly to the existing trim. Photos attached. Any opinions appreciated because this project is fighting me. 😂
