I’m done with GMC (Sierra)

I’ve officially hit my breaking point with my 2018 Sierra SLT 5.3 (71k miles).

I bought it at 7k miles, kept a perfect maintenance record, and never beat on it. No warranty, but I figured with how well I take care of my vehicles, I’d be fine.

I was wrong.

In the last 2 years alone, I’ve spent about $10k on repairs, and now I’m being told I need to drop another $5k. I’m not doing it. I’m trading it in and moving on.

Here’s what I’ve already had to fix:

- Rear axle leak

- Both front wheel bearings

- Touchscreen (glitching out)

- OEM catalytic converter

- AC compressor + recharge

- Spark plugs and wires (random misfires)

- All tire pressure sensors (TPMS)

- All turn signal indicators

- Battery and brakes (normal, fine)

- Hood latch sensor (constant “hood open” warning)

And now:

- Exhaust/resonator or full muffler system failing (loud grinding noise)

- Random “reduced power / steering drive with caution” warning

- Body already developing significant rust

All of this at 71k miles. It’s honestly insane.

On top of that, the dealership experience has been terrible. Appointments are always 3+ weeks out, prices are ridiculous, and the service attitude hasn’t helped at all.

I always thought GMC was a solid brand, but this truck completely changed my perspective. I planned to take this thing to 200k miles, but instead it’s turned into a money pit before even hitting 75k. Just waiting for the transmission to blow up around 100k.

I’m moving on to a 2026 Tundra Limited with a 10-year platinum warranty. My dad and brother both have Tundras and haven’t had any issues, so I’m hoping for a completely different ownership experience. I know there were some concerns with the 2022–2024 engines, but the warranty gives me peace of mind and I’m getting a 2026.

Curious if anyone else here has had a similar experience, or if I just got unlucky.

Was nice being part of this sub, but I’m out.
