45 minute commute daily or take on the extra debt?

Hey guys I’m a soon to be first year engineering student at UofT, but I’m conflicted between commuting for first year or living on campus (only for first year). I know engineering students don’t have much of a social life, but they are still able to make friends and visit social events very occasionally, and I do not want to miss out on this. A 45 minute commute daily back and forth is about 1 hour 30 minutes of day spent walking/on the ttc and I’m also worried that it may take away valuable time. Though if I were to live on resident (likely chestnut), and I would go into 20-25k debt from fist year alone, where as living at home I would likely only have 5-10k at the very max. Is there any advice from current students who were once in my situation?
